Arco-Iris

for Creative and Sustainable Living

Would you like to join a community and eco-village in the making ~

... living on the edge of change – between people and earth, and in the landscape between a high plateau and the River Mira floodplain near the West coast of Alentejo, Portugal.

We seek to live sustainably combining local traditional skills with new technology.  With other like-minded groups and communities we aim to create a footprint of a more sustainable society.  This way of life is helping to create a new culture and civilisation based on understanding how Life works when we cooperate consciously with nature and people – all our neighbours; a way that will continue for future generations.

On this fertile and well-watered land are traditional ‘taipa’ earth dwellings for rebuilding, some new construction possible for houses and low-impact living.  Shared land is also available for growing food, for creative living, for workshops and working holidays.

We are looking for self-reliant people – single, couples and families from Portugal and overseas who want to join a cooperative neighbourhood to live sustainably as an extended family.

For a taipa house and land share you need up to 45,000.  We want people who are prepared to undertake the practical rebuilding work for restoring traditional earth houses.  Training is available from local know-how and as part of our courses, workshops and working holiday experiences.
